New World: Aeternum: Hatchet and Great Axe PvE: six skills and equipment-weight setup

New World: Aeternum: A specific Hatchet/Great Axe setup with Berserk, Feral Rush, Raging Torrent, Reap, Charge, Gravity Well and a medium armour layout.

Existing-owner coverage: new purchases ended on 15 January 2026 and the official server closure is scheduled for 31 January 2027. Guides apply only while the service remains accessible.

OPMetaBuildReviewed 2026-10-17Detailed configuration

This configuration keeps Hatchet damage and recovery together, with Great Axe for gathering enemies and changing position. It is an equipment-and-active-skill setup for existing players. It does not claim to reproduce a raid damage record, and it does not depend on an expensive named artifact or a particular temporary event reward.

Configuration and exact selections

Primary weapon
Hatchet — Strength/Constitution attributes

Use the Berserker melee branch for this bar.

Hatchet active 1
Berserk

The recovery and pressure window of the setup.

Hatchet active 2
Feral Rush

A deliberate gap closer; do not spend it before needing access.

Hatchet active 3
Raging Torrent

Use when the target will remain in the sequence.

Hatchet upgrades
On the Hunt; Berserking Refresh; Berserking Purge; Uninterruptible Berserk

Named Berserk upgrades rather than an unspecified healing assumption.

Secondary weapon
Great Axe — Strength/Constitution attributes

Shares Strength investment with the Hatchet.

Great Axe active 1
Reap

Pulls a reachable target into the melee plan.

Great Axe active 2
Charge

Movement and target access; retain it when the route needs an exit.

Great Axe active 3
Gravity Well

Creates a grouping window before the Hatchet sequence.

Chest and legs
Heavy chest; light legs — Strength/Constitution

Part of the explicit medium-load equipment recipe.

Head, hands and feet
Medium head; medium gloves; medium boots — Strength/Constitution

Verify the resulting medium load in the character panel.

Jewellery and recovery
Constitution amulet; Strength ring; Constitution earring; health potions

A survivable attribute baseline without invented item names or fixed gear-score gates.

How to use this setup

  1. Approach with Great Axe, place Gravity Well on a manageable pack and use Reap when a target needs pulling into reach.
  2. Switch to Hatchet before the damage window. Activate Berserk, use Feral Rush for access and complete Raging Torrent when safe.
  3. Continue Hatchet attacks while managing enemy telegraphs. Do not assume Berserk makes every attack harmless.
  4. Use Charge or ordinary movement to reposition after switching back. Recover before gathering another pack.

Priorities and progression

  • Strength is the shared offensive attribute; Constitution supplies a survival buffer.
  • Choose a medium equipment load with the listed slot weights; do not copy a light-build dodge expectation.
  • No fixed current gear-score, gold price or latest-season stat breakpoint is asserted.

Change weapons before committing the attack sequence

The Great Axe creates the encounter shape; the Hatchet uses it. Opening Raging Torrent while creatures are spread makes the sequence less dependable. Gather only the enemies you can survive, switch while the window is useful and keep a movement response available. This is a dated functional weapon combination during the service’s remaining availability, not a promise of future content or balance updates.

Requirements and scope

Existing Aeternum owners only; mastery unlocks required. Medium-load solo PvE. Service scheduled to end 31 January 2027.
