Runes of Magic beginner guide: dual classes, Talent Points and elite skills

Understand Runes of Magic class combinations, XP and Talent Points, elite skills and first equipment choices. Build a practical leveling routine without confusing primary and secondary roles.

The official Gameforge PC service in its supported regions. The guide covers the primary/secondary class system; private projects and custom class combinations can follow different rules.

In Runes of Magic, a class pairing is an ordered decision. The class listed first supplies the main combat identity, while the secondary contributes selected tools. Plan the role you want to practise, then make sure both class progression and equipment support it before judging the combination by its name.

Choose the primary class before the combination label

A primary class provides its full skill set; the secondary provides available general and elite skills rather than its entire toolkit. Reversing a pairing can therefore change how it plays. Start with a role such as damage, healing or tanking, then inspect the specific pair’s abilities. Do not assume two classes will automatically perform both jobs effectively with the same equipment.

Progress both classes intentionally

Experience and Talent Points earned during play go to the primary class. Your secondary does not simply develop at the same pace in the background. Schedule time with the other class active and keep equipment it can use. Change class assignments through the appropriate in-game NPC or housing service, then confirm that the intended class is primary before handing in valuable progression rewards.

Spend Talent Points on a short, useful toolkit

Distinguish the class level from a skill’s trained rank. Identify a repeatable attack or healing action, a useful support ability and an emergency response. Read the next rank’s benefit and cost before upgrading every unlocked skill. Practise that small toolkit during ordinary quests; this reveals whether poor resource management or missing equipment is the real obstacle before you commit more Talent Points.

Check elite skills for the exact class order

Elite skills are tied to a particular class combination and have unlock conditions. Check both class requirements and the relevant quest or training route instead of buying materials from an unrelated pairing guide. After an unlock, inspect whether it changes an existing attack, adds a new action or supports a different role. Adjust the action bar and test the effect before reorganising the whole character.

Keep equipment appropriate to the active role

Read weapon, armour and level restrictions whenever you switch the primary class. A bag full of valuable items does not help if the character cannot equip them or their attributes do not support the chosen skills. Keep a functional questing set before exploring expensive rune or Arcane Transmutor upgrades. Read the full transfer or combination outcome first, especially when a process consumes source items.

Turn the quest log into a two-class plan

Group nearby objectives and leave bag space for quest items before travelling. Note which class should receive the next experience and Talent Point rewards, and when you will return to train. For your first party, explain the role you have actually prepared rather than advertising every role in the pairing. End the session by checking class levels, useful skill ranks and the next elite unlock.

Before your next session

  • Confirm the active primary and secondary class.
  • Plan experience and Talent Point rewards.
  • Check the exact elite-skill combination.
  • Keep usable gear for the next class switch.
