Guild Wars 2: Core Ranger longbow and dual axes: exact open-world build

Guild Wars 2: Complete Ranger template with nine named traits, five utility-bar choices, pets, Berserker gear, runes and weapon-swap sequence.

Weapons, skills, traits and equipment work together. Open-world learning, organised PvE and competitive modes should keep separate loadouts.

OPMetaBuildReviewed 2026-10-17Detailed configuration

This core build opens with longbow burst, then switches to two axes for sustained close-range damage. It uses no elite specialization. The pet is an active part of target control rather than a reason to stop dodging. Exotic Berserker equipment is sufficient for the listed attribute layout; ascended rarity is an optional later upgrade.

Longbow opening, axe burst and sustained follow-up.

Shares recovery with the pet.

Frost Trap; "Protect Me!"; Storm Spirit

Chill/control, stun break and an offensive spirit.

Offensive and defensive boons for the combat window.

Hunter’s Gaze; Farsighted; Predator’s Onslaught

The damage window benefits from movement-impaired or defiant targets.

Trap, pet and fury interactions.

Beastmastery
Resounding Timbre; Honed Axes; Go for the Throat

Command, axe and Beast-skill interactions.

Power, Precision and Ferocity on all six slots; Nika’s exotic armour is one named acquisition option.

A documented sustain alternative for open-world learning.

How to use this setup

  1. Send the pet onto the target. Open with Barrage, then Rapid Fire while the target remains in a safe firing area.
  2. Place Frost Trap when the enemy approaches. Swap to axe/axe; use Winter’s Bite, close-range Splitblade and Path of Scars as appropriate.
  3. Use Whirling Defense when you can complete the channel safely; it can reflect suitable projectiles.
  4. Use the pet’s Beast skill and swap pets before one is defeated. Reserve "Protect Me!" for control and heal with "We Heal As One!".

Priorities and progression

  • Berserker: Power, Precision, Ferocity. This is strike damage, not a condition-damage allocation.
  • Level 80 with the listed trait tiers and skills unlocked; pet collection is a separate prerequisite.
  • No raid benchmark or automatic group-boon role is claimed.

The longbow is the opening, not the whole rotation

Repeated longbow auto-attacks waste the purpose of the second set. Finish the valuable ranged attacks, then move into axe range when the encounter allows it. Frost Trap and movement impairment support the Marksmanship damage interaction. Keep the stun break available even when another offensive skill is ready; a completed attack sequence is worth more than being controlled with every defensive button unused.

Requirements and scope

Core level-80 Ranger, solo open world. Published core build snapshot, with explicit sustain relic alternative; not an elite-specialization raid or competitive-PvP recommendation.
