Before choosing a build
In Grim Dawn, equipment, mastery skills, components and devotions must support the same plan. Begin by identifying the damage type you actually deal after conversions. Then build defence for the content you are attempting. A high damage tooltip does not describe every resistance interaction or explain why a character survives.
Your progression checklist
- Read equipment restrictions on the main skill and its modifier.
- Check resistances after replacing an item.
- Use components intentionally instead of leaving every slot unfinished.
- Study mastery choices before selecting a second one.
A focused practice exercise
Keep a note of your main damage type and weakest resistances. After replacing equipment, compare those values before leaving town. If damage falls despite a higher item level, inspect skill modifiers and conversions. This habit makes the loot comparison understandable without requiring a complete endgame shopping list.
