This setup is for an account with 40 Attack and 40 Defence, not a one-Defence PvP pure. It equips a fast slash weapon and replaceable defensive armour. Finish Dragon Slayer I before using the platebody, or use the listed chainbody alternative. The purpose is ordinary melee training, not every F2P boss or a universal maximum-hit record.
- Activity
- Free-to-play melee training against ordinary monsters
- Edition / reference
- Old School RuneScape live F2P rules, item requirements checked 17 October 2026
- Named choices
- 11
Configuration and exact selections
- Weapon
- Rune scimitar
Requires 40 Attack; a fast slash weapon for repeated training hits.
- Head
- Rune full helm
Requires 40 Defence.
- Body
- Rune platebody — Rune chainbody before Dragon Slayer I
The platebody adds a quest requirement; the chainbody avoids that requirement.
- Legs
- Rune platelegs
Defensive leg slot at 40 Defence.
- Shield
- Rune kiteshield
A free-to-play defensive off-hand, not a members-only defender.
- Neck
- Amulet of strength
Strength bonus; Amulet of power is the accuracy/defence alternative.
- Hands
- Leather gloves
Accessible free-to-play gloves without quest glove assumptions.
- Feet
- Fighting boots
Obtained through the Stronghold of Security reward route.
- Cape
- Red cape
A simple free-to-play defensive cape; no members-only strength cape required.
- Food
- Lobster
Carry food suited to your current Hitpoints and the chosen monsters.
- Attack style
- Slash — Aggressive for Strength; Chop — Accurate for Attack; Block — Defensive for Defence
Choose the skill you intend to train rather than leaving the style unnoticed.
How to use this setup
- Equip the scimitar and select Slash/Aggressive when the session’s target is Strength.
- Fight a manageable melee monster, keeping food and an exit available; avoid magic users while wearing metal armour.
- Use Chop/Accurate for an Attack milestone or Block/Defensive for Defence rather than assuming all experience goes to the same skill.
- Bank before supplies are exhausted. Recheck the attack style after a weapon change.
Priorities and progression
- 40 Attack unlocks the rune scimitar; 40 Defence unlocks the listed rune armour.
- Train Strength for maximum-hit progression and Attack for accuracy; a strength amulet only improves maximum damage when it crosses a relevant breakpoint.
- No price or experience-per-hour guarantee is assumed.
The two equipment checks that matter
The rune platebody requirement is independent of the scimitar requirement. An account able to wield the weapon can still lack the Defence level or quest completion for the armour. This is why the chainbody alternative is explicit. Do not turn the setup into a PvP pure by following it partially: training Defence changes that account’s combat profile.
