Lost Ark beginner guide: class identity, Ark Passive and raid preparation

Understand Lost Ark class identity, skill utility, Ark Passive and encounter preparation before investing in a raid character.

An action MMO with class identity, encounter mechanics and layered character progression. Match the guide to the systems currently unlocked on your character.

OPMetaBuildReviewed 2026-10-17Practical guide

An item level describes access and equipment progression, but it does not explain how a Lost Ark class functions. Learn the class resource, recognise the main damage window and keep the encounter tools you need. Build choices then have a purpose beyond increasing a single number.

Understand what builds and spends identity

Read the identity description for your advanced class, then find which skills contribute to it. Practise a complete resource cycle in a safe setting before copying a long rotation. Destroyer, for example, distinguishes skills that gather Gravity Cores from those that consume them, with Hypergravity using a separate gauge. Do not apply one class’s rhythm to another.

Use the progression system your character has

Inspect Ark Passive and the options unlocked for your character rather than buying around an old Tier 3 screenshot. Evolution, Enlightenment and Leap affect different aspects of the setup. Match engravings, gems and skill choices to that actual state. Compare the current descriptions after a balance update instead of assuming an older preset still has identical effects.

Keep counter, stagger and weak-point tools visible

Read the utility labels of your selected skills. A skill used for damage may also be your counter or an important mechanic response. Identify when a raid asks for that tool and avoid putting it on cooldown immediately beforehand. Learn the encounter’s safe positions before extending a damage window. Surviving and completing the mechanic keeps the attempt moving.

Spend after identifying the missing piece

When damage feels low, first check missed attacks, interrupted identity cycles and time spent outside the encounter. Then inspect the relevant skill and progression upgrades. Limited boost events have dates and character-selection restrictions; read their current terms in the client. An event advertised in an old guide may no longer be available.

Before your next session

  • Identify your identity generator and spender skills.
  • Keep the relevant counter available for the encounter.
  • Check Ark Passive and engraving descriptions together.
  • Read event dates before committing a character.
