Getting started in Diablo IV

What to check before following a build: progression, equipment and resources in Diablo IV.

Before choosing a build

Before selecting a Sorcerer build, decide whether you are learning the campaign, progressing a seasonal character or optimising a specific activity. Those goals use different budgets and assumptions. Choose a guide that states its intended activity, required items and current rules. A title containing “best” is not enough information.

Your progression checklist

  • Read the resource cost of your main skill and test how long you can keep using it.
  • Keep a movement option and at least one defensive response on an accessible key.
  • Replace a single item at a time when evaluating a change.
  • Treat an old season’s special mechanics as unavailable until you confirm them in the current game.

A focused practice exercise

Try a short fight using only your main damage skill and basic fallback, then repeat with a defensive skill. Note whether you stop attacking because of mana, movement or incoming damage. That observation tells you what to improve next. Keep item experiments inexpensive while discovering which skill rhythm feels comfortable.
